MRV's LambdaDriver™ is its premiere optical transport system for building high-performance enterprise access, metropolitan carrier and long haul transport networks. The LambdaDriver™ is a multi-functional, compact, modular WDM system that supports both dense wavelength division multiplexing and coarse wavelength division multiplexing technology. LambdaDriver™ also serves as a packet optical transport system by integrating Carrier Ethernet connection-oriented services and reconfigurable OADM for automated optical mesh topologies with wavelength-level switching. The LambdaDriver™ series can support data rates from 8 Mbps up to 40 Gbps with seamless future upgrades to 100 Gbps.

The LambdaDriver® system is capable of carrying all types of services at rates ranging from 8 Mbps up to 10 Gbps.
The LambdaDriver® consists of several unique optical components performing distinct functions to deliver transport services. Fundamentally two groups of components exist which can be classified as active and passives devices. Passive devices are typically bordered by active devices at the client edge of the network and the transport (WDM) side of the network.
Transponders and muxponders condition client connections and convert them for transport on the network (WDM) side of the system. These connections are aggregated by passive optical components (CWDM and DWDM) including OADM (Optical Add Drop Multiplexers) or a combination of optical multiplexers and demultiplexers. The combination of transponders and these fundamental passive optical components formulates the basic WDM transport system.
Optical Banded OADM
In a WDM network, multiple light wavelengths are transported in parallel increasing the total transport capacity and increases the efficiency of fiber. Transponders provide a necessary conversion or translation between these network facing wavelengths and the customer premise equipment, which is typically equipped with low-cost local interfaces (copper or fiber). In addition to the basic wavelength conversion, transponders offer a suite of features that aid in the management, provisioning and upkeep WDM systems.

The term "muxponder" is derived from two communications technologies, the Transponder and Time Division Multiplexer. The Muxponder integrates these two functions into one communications appliance resulting in a very efficient use of bandwidth by combining several services within a single wavelength. Like transponders, Muxponders provide a necessary conversion or translation between network facing wavelengths and the customer premise equipment, which is typically equipped with low-cost local interfaces (copper or fiber).
